Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides triple injury update including Paul Pogba

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Edinson Cavani is in contention to make a return from injury against Crystal Palace on Wednesday after coming through a training session unscathed.

The Uruguayan has missed United’s last four matches since his most recent appearance against West Brom just over a fortnight ago, but could be involved at Selhurst Park.

“Edi has trained this morning and hopefully there is no reaction,” Solskjaer told a press conference on Tuesday.

“There are another couple of knocks that we have to look at, from after the [ Chelsea ] game, and from the season’s wear and tear.”

“We’ve had a light training session and we’re looking ok,” he added.

“A couple of doubts for tomorrow, Edinson trained which is good. Let’s hope there’s no reaction and hopefully he’ll travel with the squad.”

United are also looking to nurse midfielder Paul Pogba back to full fitness sooner rather than later, but the Frenchman is still no closer to a return to action.

“Paul is not ready for us, no,” Solskjaer admitted. “Feeling better but he has not been training with the team yet, so he’s definitely not travelling down to London.”

Meanwhile long-standing casualty Phil Jones is also progressing slowly with his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Jones has not played for United since January last year but Solskjaer is not putting any pressure on the defender as he continues his recovery.

“With Phil, he’s working really hard, he’s had a couple of setbacks and it’s the kind of injury where you have to be patient,” he added.

“I know all about knee injuries, so I’m not sure… how long is a piece of rope? We’ll give him as much time as we can.”

Speaking of pressure, United go into Wednesday’s clash second in the table but 12 points off league leaders Man City, and was asked his thoughts on whether his side were still considered title challengers.

“The pressure has not been there at all, that’s the Premier League,” he said.

“We enjoy being as close to the top as possible, but that’s the quality of the opposition, the tactics and the standards the season demands.

“It’s the strangest year of all for everyone.”
