Offset has thanked fans for their support and urged them to go out and vote in the upcoming presidential election, after he was detained by police officers.
The Migos rapper, 28, was involved in an incident on Saturday with police in Beverly Hills, where he had filmed himself being dragged from his car by officers.
A rep for Offset claimed he had followed and complied with the police while guns were drawn on him, despite being given ‘conflicting instructions’ from officers.
Offset – real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus – was not arrested and released without charge.
Releasing a statement on Offset’s behalf, his rep said: ‘Artist and philanthropist Offset was detained by the Beverly Hills Police Department following an attack by aggressive Trump supporters. He was released shortly thereafter.
‘Offset thanks his fans for their support and wishes everyone peace and safety during these trying times. He encourages everyone to get out and vote because nothing changes if nothing changes.’
The star had caught the incident on camera, as Offset, who is back together with Cardi B following a brief split that saw her file for divorce, had been in the middle of filming a livestream on Instagram.
Several officers approached his car and asked Offset to remove his hands from the steering wheel. He refused and was heard saying: ‘[I’m] a celebrity, you know who I am, I’m Offset from the Migos, they were fans that’s why they were following me, bro.’
A female officer, who appeared to be holding a firearm, told Offset: ‘That’s nothing to do with why we’re here. We were told that you guys were waving guns at people.’
The rapper replied: ‘You just watched somebody beat my car up with a flag, what are you talking about? You told me to put my hands up, I’m not doing that, there’s 25,000 people on my live. You’re going to get sued publicly.’
Officers then reached into Offset’s car and pulled him out onto the street, handcuffing the artist.
While Offset wasn’t arrested, Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed that Cardi B’s cousin Marcelo Almanzar was taken into police custody.
A statement shared via DailyMail.com read: ‘Shortly after 5PM, Beverly Hills Police received information from a passerby of a subject who pointed a weapon from a vehicle at him.
‘The passerby provided a license plate to the vehicle, and the vehicle was stopped by patrol units a short distance away. After the on-scene investigation, the passenger in the vehicle [Almanzar] was arrested.’
Almanzar is being held on a $35,000 (£26,400) bond and has reportedly been charged with carrying a loaded firearm in public and carrying a concealed weapon.
