Ant and Dec and This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have continued their winning streak at The National Television Awards – to the fury of some of the fellow ITV stars.

Tonight’s glitzy ceremony at the O2 Arena in London was hosted by David Walliams, who arrived into the ceremony by being hoisted into the air during a rendition of You Raise Me Up.

At the two-and-a-half hour long awards show, stars of the small screen were celebrated for their achievements, but it was the resident favourites that kept up their titles as gong winners.

Holly, Phil and the entire This Morning team once again won the live magazine show gong, causing Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha to declare how unhappy she was and Denise Welch walking out and going home early after losing again to the show.

Ant and Dec won two awards – continuing their 19-year long winning streak for the presenter awards, and also taking home the Bruce Forsyth entertainment award as part of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

Other winners of the night included Gavin and Stacey, who took home the insight award and caused Ruth Jones to give a nod to the fan favourite Nessa by calling out Tom Jones for not calling her back live on stage.

Michael Palin, who won the special recognition award, took the moment of remembering his career to pay tribute to his late friend Terry Jones, who died just last week after a battle with dementia.

In a classic move on his part, he spoke about one of Terry’s most famous character, Mr Creosote, and how the sketch of the pompous over-eater caused the Monty Python team to spray gallons of vomit over a restaurant the day before a wedding.

Jesy Nelson broke down in tears after winning for her documentary on online trolls, Odd One Out, and was cheered on by the audience as she celebrated the moment and thanked her mum and boyfriend, Chris Hughes.

Over in Soapland, Emmerdale came out on top as the best serial drama for the fourth time, while Mark Charnock, known best as Marlon Dingle, came out escorted by a policeman in handcuffs after his character was arrested for murder.

Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn won for her heartbreaking Coronation Street storyline on cervical cancer, which saw her character Sinead Tinker die.

Her co-star Peter Ash, who plays Paul Foreman on the soap, also took home best newcomer.

Piers Morgan, who decided to boycott the ceremony, slammed the main winners online, as well as host Walliams, who he branded ‘creepy’ during one skit where he accepted an award in his underwear.

He later said that he was sick of seeing Ant and Dec and Holly and Phil winning, and it was this reason, which he explained the morning of the event, why he wasn’t in attendance.
