Nintendo Direct surprise: Switch fans treated to SHOCK conference this week

Nintendo has announced plans to hold a surprise Direct conference for later this week.

The next Nintendo Direct-style video presentation will take place at 2pm UK time on July 30.

The short video will be hosted by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game director Masahiro Sakurai.

Sakurai will give fans a closer look at the Dragon Quest DLC fighter for the Nintendo Switch release.

The Smash Bros director will also reveal the release date for the Dragon Quest hero, which comes in multiple forms.

This includes the protagonist from Dragon Quest XI, as well as the hero from fan favourite release Dragon Quest VIII.

“Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Director Masahiro Sakurai on 30th July at 2pm (UK time) / 15:00 CEST for a video presentation featuring an in-depth look at upcoming DLC Fighter, Hero from the Dragon Quest series!” Nintendo explains.

“Alongside new details, he’ll be revealing when the fighter will arrive. To tune in, check out the Nintendo UK YouTube channel, where the presentation will be shared.

Hopefully the new DLC will be available before the release of the Switch Lite console.

The Switch Lite has a September 20 release date, and will launch at a cheaper price point.

The console will be handheld-only, meaning you won’t be able to dock it in your TV.

According to Nintendo, the Switch Lite is a console for gamers on the go.

“Nintendo Switch Lite is a compact, lightweight addition to the Nintendo Switch family, with integrated controls,” the company explains.

“Nintendo Switch Lite supports all Nintendo Switch software that can be played in handheld mode.

“It’s great for people who have lots of opportunities to play outside, and also for anyone who wants to play online or local wireless multiplayer with friends or family who already own a flagship Nintendo Switch console.

“As a dedicated handheld gaming device, Nintendo Switch Lite does not support output to a TV.”
