Teofimo Lopez takes a bodyshot from ‘The Mountain’

Unified lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez laughed off a vicious body shot from 24-stone former world’s strongest man winner Thor Bjornsson yesterday.

The boxing star was training with Bjornsson, who has been taking part in exhibition bouts, while they filmed promotional material for their sponsor Reign Body Fuel, when they decided to do the “body shot challenge”.

Bjornsson is over 24-stone in weight, or 341lbs, while Lopez will need to weigh in at nine-and-a-half-stone, or 135lbs for his world title defence against George Kambosos Jr.

The giant former strongman has been training for a boxing match with Eddie Hall for the last two years, so his technique was clearly enough to land a devastating blow on Lopez, who weighs close to one-third of his body weight.

But Lopez laughed off the shot, which rocked him off his feet, with Bjornsson admitting in the comments section of the Instagram video that he “took it like a champ”.

Bellator fighter Nick Newell also took to the comments, adding that ‘The Mountain’ “threw it proper,” with a “nice whip to it”.

Lopez then went “punch for punch” with Bjornsson, throwing a heavy shot of his own at the Icelandic fighter, who winced after taking the shot.

Both men are currently preparing for fights, with Lopez’s maiden unified title defence finally set to take place against George Kambosos Jr in New York on November 27.

“The time has finally come!” Lopez said in a press release announcing the fight. “It has been a long wait for Team Takeover.

“We’ve been in the zone for six months and counting but we’re pleased to be able to finally get this fight on DAZN!

“The Takeover will show the world once again why we are called ‘The People’s Champ’.”

And in March of next year, Bjornsson will get to put an end to his years-long feud with fellow strongman Hall after their initial meeting in September was cancelled.

Hall had to pull out of the bout due to a bicep injury that required surgery, from which he appears to be recovering well.

The Game of Thrones star instead had to face Devon Larratt, who only had a couple of weeks to train for the bout, stopping the arm wrestling legend within the first round.

“March is the plan as of today,” he told Mirror Fighting in an exclusive chat last month. “Let’s just hope his bicep heals up well as it should and we can do the fight.

“From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look promising for him, he has a hard time holding his hands in the right position.

“He fights with his hands down and leaves his head open and if he does that then it’s going to be a rough night for him, my reach and my jab are going to hurt him.

“But what he is posting doesn’t mean that he’s going to use that style, maybe he’ll come in with a completely different style, we don’t know, so we just have to wait and see.”
