Nigel Farage has slammed a tweet which depicted him with a target on his face and asked Brits “do you squeeze the trigger?”
The tweet, posted by Remain-supporting Richard Hall on the social media site, has sparked outrage among Brexit voters.
The caption alongside the image of the Brexit Party leader read: “As a patriot, do you squeeze the trigger?”
It comes amid widespread concern over the level of anger being levelled at both Brexiteer and Remainer politicians in the UK.
Mr Farage responded to the post by suggesting there would be a far greater outcry if someone had posted a similar picture of Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson. He also declared that “Remainers have been radicalised”.
He wrote on Twitter: “Imagine the outcry if a Brexit Party candidate posted a picture like this of Jo Swinson?
“Remainers have been radicalised by politicians who refuse to accept a democratic vote.”
Mr Hall, who has since deleted his account, was listed as a Lib Dem candidate in Reading in 2006 local council elections.
Earlier this year Paul Crowther pleaded guilty to common assault and criminal damage after throwing a milkshake over Mr Farage in a “politically motivated” attack.
He covered Mr Farage with the banana and salted caramel Five Guys drink as the politician campaigned ahead of the European elections.
He was ordered to pay the compensation but was spared jail.
