Nicole Kidman has opened about her losing her father in 2014 in her latest interview.

The actress, 52, admitted she was ‘shattered’ after the tragedy, but felt she ‘had to rally’ for the sake of her kids.

The Big Little Lies star is a mum to 11-year-old Sunday Rose and eight-year-old Faith, her daughters with singer Keith Urban.

She is also a mum to 26-year-old Isabella and 24-year-old Connor, who she shares with ex Tom Cruise.

Speaking to Tatler about Faith’s reaction in the immediate aftermath of her father Antony passing away, Nicole explained: ‘My three-year-old said, “But you’re not going to be sad like this tomorrow, are you?”

‘Then you realise, y’know. You have to be OK.

‘Because they need to know that they’re safe, that their mother isn’t going to fall apart. Inside? I was beyond shattered. But I had to rally.’

Wise words.

Nicole – who won the 2003 Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of writer Virginia Woolf in The Hours – went on to describe the way grief changed her.

‘I jumped in to life,’ the Moulin Rouge! star said. ‘Let’s go on a plane. Let’s try things. Let’s go for it. Because who knows, right? I was never going to do theatre again. I didn’t think my heart could handle the adrenaline and the fear.’

But Nic, who previously appeared in The Blue Room on Broadway in 1998, did tread the boards again – winning plaudits (including a London Evening Standard Theatre Award) for her turn in Photograph 51 in 2015.

Go Nicole! We hope to see you back in the West End soon!
