New No Man’s Sky Synthesis update adds ship upgrades and personal refiner

It’s only been a couple of months since No Man’s Sky received its big Beyond update, which added multiplayer and VR support. While it was generally well-received, there were still a number of things that needed fixing.

According to developer and founder of Hello Games Sean Murray, a rather gargantuan update titled Synthesis is set to drop tomorrow on 28 November that will address these issues.

‘With such a large update from such a small team, there are always going to be things which need tidying up or fan-favorite features which, in the crazy run-up to release, are left on the cutting room floor,’ wrote Murray on the official PlayStation Blog.

‘There are also brand-new things which the community have suggested since Beyond which, we agree, will only improve the experience.’

The list of updates includes:

Starship Upgrades and Salvaging – add inventory slots to your ship, upgrade its class, or sell it for scrap and get valuable products in exchange.
New Terrain Editing System – you can flatten or restore terrain with a simple button push, and any terrain edits made within a base are protected from regeneration.
New VR Features – Photo mode and creature riding will be available across all versions of the game.
Personal Refiner – a brand new piece of equipment that allows you to refine elements directly within the Exosuit, without needing to place a portable refiner.
Multiple Outfits – customise and save a number of different outfits that you can quickly change between if you ever want a new look.
New Technologies and Base Parts – triangular base building parts will be added and new technology upgrades will provide new abilities, such as long distance inventory transfers to and from freighters, mid-air jetpack recharging, and instantaneous emergency warping.
Mutiple Multi-Tools – you will be able to own more than one Multi-Tool, which can be quickly swapped via the Quick Menu.
