The PAIRS Geoscope will use AI to sift through this tremendous amount of data to pinpoint relevant clues, with the goal of accelerating how quickly Nazca Lines can be uncovered and understood.
As a first step to gauge AI’s feasibility in archeological discovery, the team trained an AI model with Watson Machine Learning Accelerator on IBM Power Systems with known photos of geoglyphs.
This sped-up the process of discovery – which usually takes years – and a new formation was able to be discovered in just two months.
This success spurred the next evolution of digital discovery, which will deploy PAIRS to integrate and analyse different, unstructured and enormous data streams that hold clues into new lines.
