"My conkers are ready!": Bros respond after their documentary receives three BAFTA nominations

The film became a viral hit over Christmas

Luke and Matt Goss have responded after the documentary on their band Bros received three BAFTA nominations yesterday.

The band went viral last Christmas after the BBC film After The Screaming Stops was broadcast, giving rise to a series of memes based on the pair’s memorable one-liners.

Writing on Twitter, Luke said he was “blown away” by the three nominations the film received for Specialist Factual, Directing and Editing. He also added that he was “sincerely honoured” before congratulating his brother and the team behind the documentary.

Matt, meanwhile, responded to a tweet from director Edgar Wright, who has been a big supporter of the film, saying: “Thank you for supporting this film, way before many did! Absolutely love your work, so it means even more coming from a true artist. My conkers are ready!”

You can see the tweets below, together with more reaction to the news on social media:

Last month, Bros revealed that they had plans to make a new documentary and are currently in negotiations with a major label over plans to record new music. “We’re gonna jump in the studio very, very soon and get our heads down,” Matt said during an appearance on Lorraine.

“There’s talks of them filming the whole process again, which is gonna be fun.” Luke added that they hoped the new record would be the “best Bros album we’ve ever made.”

Speaking about After The Screaming Stops, the drummer said: “The documentary, as much as it is a feature film, it was building bridges between Matt and I and learning to communicate creatively. If it was a promo piece, it doesn’t really achieve anything – not just for Matt and I but for the viewer. You’ve got to let it live as it is. Truth in a documentary is paramount.”

Bros are set to perform live in London this summer, with a show at the O2 Academy Brixton on July 5. They have also teased further shows “in the UK and around the world.”
