Mum tricks daughter, six, into thinking it’s already midnight so she can ‘get wasted’ with her friends on New Year’s Eve

A MUM has split opinion after admitting she tricked her daughter, six, into thinking midnight had already passed on New Year’s Eve – so she could “get wasted” with her friends.

Posting on Reddit, the 25-year-old admitted she faked the countdown by playing a YouTube video from 2018 at 8pm.

She wrote: “I feel kind of conflicted. She had been so excited to stay up for the New Year and watch the NYC ball drop on TV.

“She had her little party hat and noise maker to blow and was looking forward to the big event all day and night.

“I did not want her to stay up because I wanted to party and get wasted with my friends and I did not really want her to see me and my friends getting s*** faced.

“I showed her a YouTube video of the ball dropping from 2018 and everyone at my party pretended it was 2020 and screamed happy New Years and blew our noise makers and she was so excited.

“This was about 4 hours before the real New Years in our country.

“After that, I tucked her into bed and she went to sleep with a smile on her face. I kind of feel like s*** now because I tricked her.”

And the post split opinion – with some saying she was totally out of line, but others classing it as a “harmless white lie” and saying midnight was far too late for her daughter to stay up anyway.

One lad wrote: “I was ready to say not the A hole, but then you say you sent her to bed so you could get drunk with your friends. That’s kind of messed up that you would rather do that than stay up with your daughter.”

While a second said: “Totally agree. Doing it so you can get f***ed up when clearly it meant a lot to your daughter to stay up and celebrate is just an a hole thing to do.”

Another person added: “YTA (you’re the a**hole) for getting wasted while you’re responsible for a little kid.”

And a fourth said: “YTA for sending your daughter to sleep four hours early so that you can get s*** faced.”

Others gloated: “Hope you aren’t hungover the morning after.”

But others said it was better than trying to keep her up until midnight

But others felt it wasn’t a big deal. One said: “Parents are allowed to have fun sometimes you know. You gotta give yourself a break once in awhile.”

“Why is it messed up?” another mum asked. “The kid slept happily none the wiser. OP (original poster) got to have fun with friends.”

A third commented: “She’s 6. Not really a big deal.”

While a fourth wrote: “I think it’s kinda sweet that OP feels guilty about telling such a harmless white lie.”

Another parent said: “Guys, parents are people too! They deserve some time away from kids. As long as both parent and child are happy, I see no issue here. Some people are just being snowflakes here!”

While one wrote: “Parents have been doing this since the dawn of time.”

And another said: “It’s a lot more responsible of OP to send her daughter to bed early and have her sleeping upstairs, rather than around everybody drinking alcohol!

“I think it’s a great idea that you gave her her own little NYE party, chances are she might not have even made it to midnight anyway and would have been disappointed the next day when she found out she missed it.

“This way she went to bed with a smile on her face”.
