Mum-of-two defends smoking weed around her kids as it allows her to have the ‘best stress-free days’ with them

A MUM has defended smoking weed around her children after she was shamed by a supermarket cashier.

Caitlin Fladager, 26, lives Vancouver, Canada, where recreational and medicinal marijuana use is legal.

But while this may be the case Caitlin says that she is still subject to judgement, especially when wearing one of her favourite slogan jumpers.

Yesterday Caitlin took to Facebook to defend her choice to use the Class B drug after a checkout worker took offence to a sweatshirt printed with “FIRST I SMOKE WEED THEN I DO THINGS.”

The mum-of-two wrote: “Yes, I have smoked before when my kids are awake. No, that doesn’t make me a bad parent.

“I remember the first time I wore this sweater out in public. I was at the mall, surrounded by tank tops that said ‘I’m a wine mom’ and ‘nothing gets done until my wine glass is empty’.

Caitlin is adamant that weed does not make her a bad mum, in fact she says it makes her a better mum

“But my sweater, was definitely the one of the most looked at things, probably because I had my two young kids with me.

“I had one cashier say to me ‘do you think it’s safe to get high with your kids?’”

Caitlin went on to say that she simply thinks people have got the wrong impression of weed, and are associating her with a stereotype.

She continued: “It took me by surprise. It made me wonder. Why every time someone thinks of weed, they must be getting high and not being able to function.

“When I smoke while my kids are up, which is rare, but it has happened, it is to calm myself. Not to get high, or to lay on the couch all day.”

Caitlin even argued that the drug had actually helped her to become a better mother.

“Marijuana has so many other benefits besides the ones you see in the movies” she continued.

“It has helped me immensely with being a more patient mother, it has helped me gain the weight I needed to, and it has helped my insomniac self, get some well needed sleep at night.”

The mum said that when she does wear the “wine mom” t-shirts she owns she gets “high fives” from fellow parents, and thinks it shouldn’t be any different with her weed apparel.

She finished: “Smoking while your kids are awake doesn’t make you a bad parent.

“Some people don’t smoke just to get high. You don’t have to smoke a ton every time.

“It doesn’t make you lay on the couch all day, and ignore you kids.

“So, yeah, I’m a mom of two, and I have smoked while my kids are awake, and you know what? Those are the most relaxed, stress free days my kids and I have.

“Sincerely, a pretty kick ass mom who smokes a lot of weed.”

This isn’t the first time that Caitlin has come out in defence of marijuana.

Last month she claimed that it was getting her through isolation with her kids.

Opening up about her nightly weed use in the caption, Caitlin wrote: “I wanted to take this time to talk about something that has helped me through this whole situation we are all going through. And that’s marijuana.”

Explaining how she’s seen lots of Instagram posts about “moms chugging bottles of wine” to cope with the coronavirus crisis, Caitlin added: “As soon as I mention I use marijuana to calm myself down after the kids are in bed, I still get those comments and DMs.”

The mum-of-two – who has been open about her mental health struggles online – explained how she’s been smoking marijuana for the past two years to help with her anxiety and only does it when her children are in bed in the evenings.

In other parenting news, this mum was left livid when a colleague asked her to turn off her Zoom camera while breastfeeding.

And we revealed that parents juggling work and childcare don’t get to relax until 8:39pm.

Plus this mum made an adorable outdoor kitchen set for son for just £10 in lockdown.
