Mum lunchbox shamed for her son’s bulging meal, but she insists she’d pack MORE in if she could

AS we’re sure all parents with teenagers will agree, sometimes it feels like their appetites are absolutely ENDLESS.

But while most mums simply try to keep the fridge stocked up with snacks, one woman has gone the extra mile by sending her son to school with a VERY impressive packed lunch – including five pieces of fruit, two sandwiches and an entire cucumber.

The lunchbox the mum made for her son has been labelled 'monstrous' by other parents

Sharing a photo of her son’s enormous packed lunch on Facebook, the Australian mum wrote: “The contents of a growing boy’s snack and lunch bag for school.

“If I could fit more in I would as he never stops eating.”

Trying to keep the packed lunch as healthy as possible, the mum sent her son to school with two bananas, one apple, two peaches and a whole punnet of grapes.

What’s more, she also included a bag of carrot sticks, tomatoes, and a whole cucumber as well as two muffins, two cheese strings, two cereal bars, a packet of roasted chickpeas and almonds. And breathe…

Although the mum was proud of her handiwork, other Facebook users blasted the “monstrous” amount.

One replied: “Healthy choices but that’s still a lot of food. Bet that kid never stops moving.”

Another wrote: “Wow, he eats more than me over two days.”

“This is way too much,” a third argued.

If I could fit more in I would as he never stops eating…

That said, not everyone was so critical of the woman – with many praising her for being so organised.

“What an awesome mum you are,” one gushed. “That looks like a fantastic assortment of food for your growing boy and all healthy.”

“Looks delicious,” another added. “On the other hand, when my boy starts eating that much he will be up for sale!”

What the NHS recommends schoolkids have for lunch

The NHS gives a number of suggestions and guidelines on their Change4Life website:

  • Base the lunchbox on foods like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes – wholegrain ideally – too keep kids fuller for longer
  • If your child isn’t keen on wholegrain, try making sandwiches with one slice of white and one slice of wholemeal bread
  • Try to keep lunchboxes interesting by using a variety of shapes like bagels, pittas and wraps
  • Make food fun as lunches can be more exciting if the child has to put them together, like having foods for dipping and makes a change from sandwiches every day.
  • Opt for low fat foods, like lean meats or fish.
  • Cut down on the amount of spreads you put into sandwiches
  • Always add a bit of salad and vegetables to the meal
  • Cut down on the crisps
  • Chop up some fruit or peal satsuamas and add those instead of sweets
  • Cheese can be high in fat and salt so pick strong tasting ones or go for low-fat varieties
  • Get the kids involved in making the lunch – they’ll be more likely to eat it if they helped make it
