Mrs Hinch fans share £1 washing up liquid trick to help remove stains from clothes

Fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have shared their top tips for removing stains from clothes without breaking the bank – and one method just uses washing up liquid

No matter how careful we try to be with our clothes, it’s likely that you’ll have had to deal with a stain on an otherwise crisp white shirt at least once.

While you might think that the only option to reverse the effects of red wine or ketchup is to splash out on expensive stain removal products, fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have shared their top tips for alternative methods you can use to get your whites back to their shining glory.

In a post on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips page on Facebook, one woman asked what the best stain remover for clothes is after her children managed to stain their white school shirts, Express.co.uk reports.

And among the tips given to the mum, several cleaning fans said the number one product they use is actually a simple kitchen item you probably already own – washing up liquid.

The mum asked: “Hi everyone. I’m wondering if anyone can recommend the best stain remover for clothes? My kids have been back to school one day and already have their new white polo tops stained.

“I used the Vanish Oxi Action spray and put in an anti-stain wash but as you can see the stains are still there.”

She was immediately met with comments from helpful cleaning fans who gave her tips, with many saying they use Fairy Washing Up Liquid in a bowl of water to clean up their stains – which can be bought from Tesco for just £1.

One helpful commenter wrote: “For me freezing cold running water and Fairy Washing Up Liquid with and a bit of hand washing always works!”

While another added: “I always use Fairy Washing Up Liquid, wash in the machine and stick it on the line in the sun. I will leave it out a few days if I need to, then just wash it again – never had to throw any of my little ones’ clothes out.”

Someone else suggested using a toothbrush to help shift stubborn stains, as they said: “I’ve always found hand washing the stain with Fairy Washing Up Liquid first works well if it’s a stubborn stain.

“I use an old toothbrush then pop it into the washing machine with more Fairy on the stain.”

And if you’d like to try something different, other commenters said they’ve had success with putting a dishwasher tablet in the drum of the washing machine alongside their normal detergent.

While the initial purchase of the product might cost more than washing up liquid with a packet of 80 Finish All in One Max Dishwasher Tablets costing around £8.89 from Amazon, that comes out to around 11p per tablet.

You can also use white vinegar to help remove stains, as one other commenter claimed that Stardrops White Vinegar – which costs £4.21 from Amazon – is the “best thing” they’ve ever tried.

They said: “I’ve tried all sorts, best thing I have found is Stardrops White Vinegar.”
