The MP for Rhondda in Wales, 57 was told he had melanoma after his husband Jared Cranney noticed the thick mole, which looked like a 2p piece, on the back of his head after a haircut.

He encouraged others to seek urgent help if they ever spot anything suspicious on their skin.

And he added in a warning to Theresa May: “If the Prime Minister says anything hostile about the Welsh NHS I shall projectile vomit at her across the chamber.”

In a moving interview with Sky News today he said it “feels like being punched in the stomach” to find out the news.

The disease affects 13,500 people in the UK every year, and more than 2,000 die of it every year.

He underwent surgery to tackle the mole – including having part of his scalp removed and replaced with a skin graft.

People point at him on the train now as it’s healing, he revealed.

“I know I’m not anybody special, hundreds and hundreds of people go through this all the time. There will be people having this exactly today…” he said.

“I have no choice [but to talk about it] because it’s so obvious. People point at me on the train.

Mr Bryant told how he was afraid the cancer would have spread throughout his body, but further tests found it hadn’t.

And he recommended that anyone “take somebody with you” when getting your results as it’s hard to comprehend.

When he discovered it he “felt cold in my skin for 48 hours”.

“I slept terribly that night and I imagined everything – I was going to be dead by the end of the week, I was not going to make it to Easter.

“Every single twinge in my body was another form of cancer and I was going to discover when I went for the next thing that I was riddled with it.”

He advised Brits not to use “Dr Google” because the information is always out of date and sometimes wrong.

And he added: “it’s absolutely fine not to be strong”.
