The Strictly Come Dancing professional, 25, knocked Giovanni Pernice, 29, off the top spot in the annual pro challenge during the show.

Graziano and Giovanni both broke the previous World Record, set in November 2011 by former Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev, who achieved 79 Botafogo dance steps in 30 seconds.

The hunk won the challenge with an impressive 90 steps and Giovanni came to a close second with 80 steps after three other dancers were disqualified.

The Botafogo is a classic Samba step; in order for the move to qualify, the pro challenge panel Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood, former Strictly Champion Flavia Cacace-Mistry and official Guinness World Record adjudicator Mark McKinley) were looking for a clear step across to the side and then a replacement of weight.

If the step did not include all of these points, it was disqualified.

Meanwhile, viewers have branded Strictly a fix after a technical glitch caused voting problems online on Saturday night.

Fans of the show hit out after Alex Scott and her partner Neil Jones were the latest to depart the dance floor on Sunday – narrowly missing out on a spot in this weekend’s semi-finals.

Claudia Winkleman addressed the problem at the start of the programme: ‘Apologies if you experienced any problems voting online on Saturday night.

‘There was a technical problem but our independent verifier has confirmed we have a fair and valid result.’

On Saturday, bosses were forced to extend the voting deadline until 9pm from the original 8.40pm after angry viewers were flooding Twitter with complaints.

Facing the dance off was Alex, 35, and her pro partner Neil, 37,- who performed their Samba to Joyful Joyful from the musical Sister Act – and Chris Ramsay, 33, and Karen Hauer, 37- who danced their Foxtrot to Consider Yourself from the musical Oliver!

However it was Alex and Neil who were sent home, while Chris and Karen made it through to this Saturday’s semi-finals.

It Takes Two airs on BBC Two weekdays at 6.30pm. The final episode of the series will start at 6pm on Friday 13 December.
