Toni-Ann beat 111 contestants to become the fourth Jamaican woman to wear the crown in the pageant’s 69-year history.

The stunning aspiring doctor speaks English, Jamaican and Creole and is an aspiring doctor and is studying psychology at the University of Florida.

Piers, who has also judged America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent, said the pageant was the judging highlight of his life.

‘Well this definitely beats judging piano-playing pigs on Britain’s Got Talent,’ he joked on Twitter.

Toni-Ann, also an accomplished opera singer, got a standing ovation for her rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ during the talent round.

She clearly made an impression on Piers.

The Good Morning Britain host told Toni-Ann: ‘If you’d come out and sung like you did tonight on those shows you might have won one of those!

‘You have an amazing voice. It is Whitney-esque.’

Piers then asked the beauty queen if she’d consider a career in music.

She replied: ‘I always say if the door is open I’ll walk through it.’

Toni-Ann finished ahead of runner-up Miss France Ophely Mezino, while Miss Nigeria, Miss Brazil and Miss India rounded out the top five.

Piers grilled the women during an intense interview challenge.

He asked Toni-Ann who, in her opinion, was the most inspiring woman in the world.

She replied: ‘So now you asked me a question to make me cry.

‘The most inspiring woman to me is my mother.

‘Now I must say, if my mother and father are the roots and I am the tree, then really any work I do, anything I am able to change in the world, it’s the fruits of their labour.

‘That’s why I’m able to sit before you today.’
