Misfits Gaming Group today announced it will relocate to a 18,000 sq. ft., corporate headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida next year. Over $1.3M will be invested into the facility, which will simultaneously act as a training center for Misfits’ Florida-based esports teams, and office space for its employees and portfolio companies in the MSF.IO incubator program.

“Thanks to the state of Florida, we’re excited to be opening our headquarters in Boca Raton next year,” said Ben Spoont, CEO and co-founder of Misfits Gaming Group, in a statement. “Boca Raton will be our base of operations for our global esports teams, as well as our two Florida-based franchised esports teams, the Florida Mayhem and Florida Mutineers.”

Misfits secured a $210K QTI tax refund from the state of Florida, through economic development organization Enterprise Florida and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. An additional $21K job growth incentive grant came from Palm Beach County, to be applied with matching funds from the City of Boca Raton.

In the announcement, Misfits stated it would create 30 new jobs with average salaries of $95K, consolidating its operations between Boca Raton and Berlin, Germany.

In March, Misfits will host its first live esports matches as part of an Overwatch League (OWL) homestand event for its Florida Mayhem franchise, with ticket prices varying between $76-$116. Misfits’ Florida Mutineers Call of Duty League (CDL) franchise will host a homestand of its own, from April 11-12. The Watsco Center at the University of Miami will be the venue for both events. A second Mayhem OWL homestand will also be held in Orlando from May 16-17.

Misfits Gaming was originally founded in 2016 by Ben Spoont along with Syfy Channel founders Lauri Silvers and Mitch Rubenstein. NBA franchise the Miami Heat acquired a stake in the company in 2017, and Misfits itself announced in November 2019 that it would invest in startups through a $10M esports and gaming incubator and seed fund, MSF.IO.
