Mesut Ozil has shown his support for Mikel Arteta by urging Arsenal fans to ‘trust the process’ following the team’s draw against Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

After being appointed as Unai Emery’s permanent replacement last week, Arteta took charge of Arsenal for the first time on Thursday.

But the Gunners could only register a point as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.

Dan Gosling opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s side before half time but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised in the second half to earn a draw for Arsenal.

Ozil, meanwhile, was restored to the team after he was dropped by Freddie Ljungberg for the goalless draw against Everton last weekend.

And after the match, Ozil posted on Twitter: ‘Unlucky to not get the victory. But many positive things to take away from the game. Trust the process.’

Arteta was buoyed by Ozil’s display following his first game in charge of Arsenal.

‘To be fair his attitude in training since the day that I walked in the building has been incredible,’ Arteta said after the draw against Bournemouth.

‘I’ve seen this. I’ve said that I was going to give a clean slate to everybody and it was fair to give it to him.

‘When we did the game preparation and were watching the opponents, where we could hurt them, we believed that he could be a key point.

‘We prepared the game like this with him.

‘He responded, did what he had to do, and we could’ve scored two or three goals because of him.’
