Mesut Ozil has appeared to confirm his Arsenal exit with a message to Fenerbahce on Twitter.

It’s understood that the 32-year-old has now reached an agreement with Arsenal to end his £350,000-a-week contract this month, which paves the way for his switch to Fenerbahce.

Ozil had initially intended to see out the remainder of his deal which expires at the end of the season, but the midfielder is keen to reignite his career having failed to make an appearance for the Gunners over the last 10 months.

On Saturday afternoon, Fenerbahce dropped a hint that Ozil’s arrival is imminent as they posted a lyric from a Turkish song which translates as, ‘come with the day and night’, alongside an hourglass emoji.

Ozil then responded to Fenerbahce’s message on Twitter which heart emoji’s in the colours of the Turkish club with an hourglass emoji.

Ozil is expected to arrive in Turkey on Sunday to undergo his medical and finalise his move to Fenerbahce.

Despite being frozen out of the first-team, Mikel Arteta has insisted that Ozil’s legacy will not be tarnished by how his Arsenal career has ended.

‘What Mesut has done at the football club is unquestionable and that will stay,’ Arteta said last week.

‘It doesn’t matter if he plays two more games, 10 more games or none.

‘I think what he has done is there for the records, the history of the club and his contribution, nobody can discuss that.’

Speaking earlier this week, Ozil’s agent confirmed that the midfielder would only join Fenerbahce if he opted to make the move to Turkey.

‘If he comes to Turkey then he will play for Fenerbahce, god willing. Mesut has always said this. Let me tell you he has told me, ‘in my football career I am going to play for Fenerbahce’,’ Erkut Sogut told beIN Sports.

‘I’ve been working with him for eight years and we have touched on this topic a few times and Mesut always said, ‘one day I’m going to play for Fenerbahce’.’
