Melania Trump dress: First Lady wears Dolce & Gabbana to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace

President Donald Trump and Melania Trump arrived at Buckingham Palace on Monday afternoon for a private lunch with the royals.

The couple were greeted in the grounds by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, who was wearing an all-white ensemble which matched that of the First Lady’s.

Melania chose a white dress with navy blue accents on the belt and collar, paired with a matching boater hat by controversial designer Dolce & Gabbana for the highly anticipated meeting.

Last year the Italian label faced accusations of racial stereotyping for an ad campaign released in China, featuring a Chinese model struggling to eat Italian food with chopsticks. Since then, many high profile names have steered clear of the brand, but Melania has remained a loyal supporter, hitting headlines for choosing to wear the brand to celebrate Thanksgiving in 2018.

Herve Pierre, one of Melania’s favourite designers and the man behind her inauguration gown, created the boater hat for the state visit.

“Here is the sketch of the hat I designed for our First Lady, for her State Visit in England to meet Her Majesty the Queen,” wrote Pierre on Instagram. “Chalk double face wool crepe with a midnight blue biais silk crepe matching the Dolce & Gabbana dress.”

Melania first met the Queen last July at Windsor Castle and wore a cream suit by Dior. Today’s choice is certainly a less safe option.
