MEL B is to pay her former nanny £1.8million for calling her a prostitute, it was reported last night.
The former Spice Girl agreed to the out-of-court settlement to stop Lorraine Gilles’ defamation claim.
Had the case gone ahead, embarrassing details of Mel B’s bisexual romps and her troubled relationship with ex-husband Stephen Belafonte would have been laid bare in court.
It follows a two-year legal battle after which both sides agreed that “keeping the matter under wraps was best for all”.
Mel, 43, had branded Lorraine a prostitute in her divorce declaration against her ex-husband.
She alleged both of them coerced her into threesomes and accused her ex-husband of getting the nanny into threesomes.
The pair denied the allegations.
But the singer was facing legal costs and damages of up to £5million if she lost the case.
The deal also means Mel’s celeb pals — such as Geri Horner and Heidi Klum — will not be called to give evidence at the Los Angeles Superior Court. And the Leeds-born star will not have to face her ex-husband, 43, after their bitter split.
A source said: “The last thing she wanted was the rest of the band on the stand being probed all about her sex life.”
It will calm tensions between Mel and Spice Girl Geri after it emerged that they once enjoyed a night of passion together.
Mel was said to have embarrassed married mum-of-two Geri by telling all on TV last month.
