Maya Jama hasn’t publicly responded to Drake giving her an unexpected shout-out on his new song because, frankly, she’s having an absolute blast on holiday.
The former BBC Radio 1 presenter boarded a private jet with a couple of her close girlfriends on Monday and soon arrived on the sunny shores of Ibiza.
‘Let’s be Avin ya ?✈️ #clingcling,’ Maya captioned a photo of her posing on the private plane, before later adding in her Instagram stories: ‘Lol can you tell I’m excited [sic].’
After getting comfortable on the flight, the TV star made friends with the pilots and took a smiley selfie with them in the cockpit.
It was then time to unwind and Maya, 25, headed straight to a restaurant for dinner and cocktails before lounging by the pool with views of the sun blazing over the infinity pool.
While Maya was jetting off for sun, sea and sand, Drake released his new song with drill artist Headie One titled Only You Freestyle.
Fans were left stunned by the rapper’s casual name drop of Maya because, who knew they were friends?
‘Chubbs might jam this yute for a chain,’ Drake spits in his opening line, before quickly adding: ‘And gave it to a sweet one, called that Maya Jama.’
Right on cue, fans rushed to social media where they couldn’t help but speculate what Maya’s ex Stormzy thinks of the line.
‘Drake dropping Maya Jama’s name. Stormzy you have 24 hours to respond,’ one wrote while another added: ‘Stormzy did a tune with Tion Wayne so Headie went and grabbed Drake who dropped a bar about Maya Jama looooool.’
One listener chimed in: ‘No way has Drake just mentioned Maya Jama, go to bed Stormzy.’
Others revelled in it with another joking: ‘Drake calling Maya Jama a sweet one on the opening verse… Stormzy is somewhere SCREAMING.’
Maya and Stormzy, 26, dated for four years before they decided to call time on their relationship last year, however it appears they remain friends as Stormzy recently spoke fondly of his former girlfriend. When chatting with Charlamagne Tha God, he was asked whether or not they’d reconcile their relationship, to which he said: ‘I would love for that to happen, but I don’t know…
‘I would love to be the man who she… I would love to do all the things that make it work,’ he said. ‘I want to marry her, I want to have her children. All of that.’
However, it looks as though Maya is enjoying her single life, and recently expressed to The Guardian how she is being recognised for her career rather than her private life.
‘I understood at the time. He was – he is – massive in the public eye and a lot of people didn’t know who I was,’ she told the publication.
‘But now I do feel people know my name separately, and it does feel like I’m coming into my own. It feels like I’m finally getting recognition for my hard work.’
