Master the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle’s Zoom-ready ‘dos in 3 simple steps

Since we became cocooned in the confines of our own homes, it would appear that we are paying particular attention to our hair.

Findings from L’Oreal show that searches for “hair-washing” have seen an increase of 76 per cent since the start of April, while searches for ‘clarifying shampoo’ are also soaring, having seen a surge of 40 per cent in the same time frame.

This goes to show that the surplus amount of time we’re currently facing is enabling us to become our best selves, self-care like we’ve never had the time to do before.

Two notable figures who have seamlessly debuted updated lockdown locks are the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.

The latter showcased her effortless, yet oh-so-chic, ‘do during a Zoom call with her patronage, Smart Works, yesterday. Dialling in from her new home of LA, Meghan rocked a half up, half down style, which worked to highlight her burgundy Joseph jumper (which is currently out of stock.) and screamed “I mean business.”

In fact, perhaps she took her cues from the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore her hair in the same style for her first-ever public Zoom call, which was to spoke to staff and children at Casterton Primary Academy.

“Trends come and go but the half up half down look is always a favourite,” states Lamphane Pathammachak, senior stylist at renowned London salon, Michael Van Clarke. “It can be dressed up or down with accessories and is also a favourite for garden parties and the races.”

While more of us may be washing our collective manes, here’s the three-step, royal way to style your tresses for your next Zoom call.

Step 1

Make sure your hairline around your face is neat. If you can, as an extra step, you can blowdry the front three sections around the face, with a bit of blowdry spray (£19.50, shop it here) to hold it in place.

Step 2

Find your centre parting and then section the front of your hair ear to ear from about where a hairband would sit.

Step 3

Twist the two front strands of hair, pull back and grip into place, you can tease it out a bit to make it softer. Then bring your hair that is down forward so that it flows across the shoulders. Finish with a spritz of hairspray (£12.50, shop it here.)

Et voila! One royal-approved hairdo ready to (virtually) go.
