Eleven years after launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige now has his eye on a galaxy far, far away.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the 46 year old producer and executive will be developing a new Star Wars movie for LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Some insiders claim this could be a precursor to Feige taking a bigger role at LucasFilm, though others claim it came to be simply because he has always had a big passion for the franchise.

Sources say that Feige had discussed an entry into the Star Wars franchise in a late summer meeting with Disney co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman.

No specific details about the project, but Horn, Disney’s chief creative officer, had nothing but praise for Kathleen Kennedy and the LucasFilm team, and their partnership with Feige.

‘We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Bone and Blood with Emma Watts and Fox,’ Horn said.

‘With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a film together,’ Horn added.

Sources also claim that Kennedy will remain in charge at LucasFilm for the forseeable future, with no regime change set at this time.

While development on this Star Wars movie is still in very early stages, Feige is already considering casting options.

Sources are claiming the producer/executive has reached to a ‘major actor’ and said there is a specific role he would like that actor to play if this movie is made.

That could indicate that this movie Feige is developing will feature previously-established characters in the Star Wars universe, though that is not confirmed.

Still, given Feige’s impeccable track record with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and given some of Disney’s slight struggles with the Star Wars franchise in recent years, having Feige establish a foothold in the Star Wars universe could be beneficial.
