An unearthed video of Married At First Sight star Amanda Micallef has revealed that the personal trainer initially quit the show to reunite with her ex-girlfriend.
In a candid clip shared to Instagram in July 2019, Amanda, 34, tells her followers that she left producers ‘gutted’ when she withdrew her application for the sake of saving her relationship.
‘I decided to give it another crack,’ Amanda said at the time, saying she ‘loved’ her partner ‘dearly.’

‘I actually did get in, I got accepted very early on but I withdrew my application cause I’ve decided to work things out with my ex and give it another crack,’ Amanda said.
‘The producer was a little gutted as they loved my application, they loved me… they decided pretty early on in the process that they wanted me and that was flattering and shattering at the same time.’
Amanda said she withdrew her application because people around her encouraged her to ‘go for it’ with her ex.
‘I actually did get in, I got accepted very early on but I withdrew my application cause I’ve decided to work things out with my ex and give it another crack,’ Amanda said in the clip
‘But I have a lot of supportive people around me that have basically said, “if you love this girl, go for it, make it work.” The show is always going to be there if it doesn’t work out.’
She said the decision to quit MAFS was ‘bittersweet,’ but she was ‘happy’ with her choice.

During her wedding vows, Amanda alluded to making ‘mistakes’ in her recent past.
She was later asked to clarify what she meant by this during a confrontation with Tash’s bridesmaids, Ashlee and Rachel, at the reception.
Amanda revealed that her ‘mistake’ was trying to reconnect with an ex-girlfriend shortly before applying for Married At First Sight.

She explained: ‘I was at a crossroads of making it work with her, or choosing the experiment. I thought if I went back to [my ex], I’d go back to what I knew. I wouldn’t have been happy going back to that relationship long-term.
‘Or if I did this, I could meet an equal and be happy. Know from the bottom of my heart, I will look after [Tash]. If someone tries to hurt her, they better run.’
However this week, Tash was spotted at the beach on the Gold Coast, kissing her new girlfriend Madison Hewitt, confirming that her and Amanda’s marriage didn’t last.
