Amanda Micallef is set to be Married At First Sight’s first lesbian participant in the highly anticipated new season of the series.

And just days before the premiere, the 34-year-old strength coach has opened up about her past.

In a promotional video, Amanda admitted that she had been unfaithful in a previous relationship but claims it wasn’t her fault because her partner ‘wouldn’t let her go.’

‘I cheated on my ex-[girlfriend] so I can vouch first hand that I tied to walk away from the relationship several times but she wouldn’t let me go,’ she admitted. 

‘I obviously made that poor decision to cheat on her [and] it hurt her obviously in the process but I understand what its like to be on the other end of it,’ she continued. 

She added: ‘I understand that good people make bad choices every now and then.’

Amanda also explained: ‘Two people play a part in a relationship so it’s like what have you not done to have let that partner astray.’

The Melbourne-based brunette will be matched with Tash Herz, 31, on the series. 

In a teaser advert, Amanda was seen breaking down while discussing how she is now able to marry after same-sex unions were legalised in Australia in December 2017.

She wept: ‘My sister is married, my friends are all married. And just being able to get married and see what that actually feels like…’

The trailer then cut to Amanda nervously waiting at the altar to meet her new ‘wife’.

‘When I see the right woman, I do believe in love at first sight,’ she said.

Married At First Sight returns to Nine at 7:30pm on February 3
