Mark Labbett: 'No excuses' The Chase star issues apology to ITV after 'awful' move

The Chase was back on ITV last night with another instalment and this time it was Mark Labbett taking on four contestants. The 54-year-old confessed his performance on the show was “awful” after he got 11 questions wrong in the final round.

Mark admitted this particular episode was not his finest moment on the show.

In view of his 120,000 followers, he issued an apology to ITV, as The Chase contestants walked home with a cash prize of £36,000.

Mark wrote: “No excuses, I played awful. My focus was clearly off, and I cannot explain why I missed three very gettable ones. Sorry ITV! #thechase.”

A fan cheekily replied: “Mark, I’m very disappointed in you. I’m a long time chase fan and used to be a long time Mark fan. This is the first time I think you’ve thrown the game on purpose and feel you need investigating for bringing the game into disrepute.”

“I didn’t. Put your complaint into OFCOM,” Mark quipped followed by a smiley face emoji.

The social media user in question remarked: “Beasty Boy, as far as nibbles go … this is by far my favourite.

“Especially as I will always be a long time Mark fan. You live to fight another chase my friend.”

The Beast’s comments come after he took the hot seat against contestants John, Pamela, Samuel and Susan.

But by the time the final chase came around, viewers at home were left reeling by the quizmaster’s performance.

In the final round, the contestants put Mark to the test as he was tasked with getting 17 questions correct.

But after he got one question incorrect things took a dramatic turn for the quiz champion.

The Chaser got a total of 11 questions wrong, giving the team their chance to take home a fair share of the £36,000 cash prize.

Upon losing, a very annoyed Mark commented: “Well played guys, I threw that away. I don’t know what happened.”

Viewers at home vented their frustrations as they took to social media to comment.

One person said: “11 pushbacks. Talk about a bad day for Mark. If it was Shaun everyone would be ripping him to shreds #thechase.”

Another person remarked: “Come on Mark ffs #TheChase.” (sic)
