Manchester United are tracking Ligue 1 defender William Saliba and are preparing an official transfer approach, according to reports.

The 18-year-old is one of France’s rising stars and has attracted the attention of several top clubs across Europe.

Saliba has made 13 appearances at centre-back this season and is valued at around £26million by his club Saint-Etienne.

Le 10 Sport claim Saliba is being tracked by United and the Red Devils have registered their interest in the youngster with the French side.

There is ‘serious’ interest from United and the Manchester club could make an official approach to sign Saliba in the next few weeks.

United are plotting a busy summer window and are desperate to sign a centre-back capable of transforming their fragile defence.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be appointed permanent manager in the coming months, but talk of a mega-move for an elite centre-back appears to be cooling.

A £90m move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly been shelved, and instead United will focus on signing young players capable of developing into stars.

Saliba fits that bill, but would represent a significant investment at £26m considering his age and inexperience.
