Manchester United are prepared to offer €80 million (£71.6m) for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports in Italy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign a new central midfielder before the start of the season following the departure of Ander Herrera earlier this summer.

United’s need for a new midfielder could also be increased if Paul Pogba pushes harder for a move away from Old Trafford with both Real Madrid and Juventus interested.

Milinkovic-Savic was linked with a move to Old Trafford during Jose Mourinho’s reign, and according to Sky Sport Italia, United are now in talks with Lazio to discuss a potential deal.

The report claims that United are willing to pay €80m (£71.6m) for the Serbia international.

But Lazio are holding out for a €100m (£89.7m) transfer fee for the 24-year-old.

Paris Saint-Germain have also registered their interest in Milinkovic-Savic but their current offer falls below Lazio’s asking price.

United are also in the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, while Southampton’s Mario Lemina has also been linked and is open to a move to Old Trafford.
