Alexis Sanchez’s failure to succeed at Manchester United was down to his inability to adapt to a ‘truly big club’ following his move from Arsenal.

That’s the view of some of the coaching staff at Old Trafford, who tried and failed to get through to the Chilean throughout his 18 months at the club.

Sanchez completed a season-long loan move to Inter Milan on Thursday with United agreeing to pay 40% of his £400,000-a-week wages.

Though he’ll still be contracted to the club, it’s hard to see Sanchez putting on the red shirt again and it’s likely his career at the club is over.

The move brings to an end one of the most disappointing transfers in Premier League history and Sanchez certainly posed numerous problems for both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his ill-fated stint at the club.

United hijacked Manchester City’s move for the winger in 2018 to take him to the Theatre of Dreams and it was considered a significant coup at the time.

However, Sanchez managed just five goals in 45 appearances for the club – in stark contrast to his one-in-two ratio at Arsenal.

His failure to succeed was a mystery to Mourinho but the Sun claim certain members of the backroom staff at Old Trafford simply feel Sanchez couldn’t adapt at a ‘truly big club’.

Sanchez failed to deal with the expectations of being a United player and was weighed down by the record wages which he was handed.

The Chile international’s demeanour was also a worry to the United squad, who felt he isolated himself from his team-mates.

Both Mourinho and Solskjaer tried to motivate Sanchez but failed to get a response and the club sanctioned his departure a fortnight ago after conceding he had no future at the Theatre of Dreams.
