Manchester City and Real Madrid will fight over the £150million transfer of Tottenham star Harry Kane, reports say.

The striker sparked transfer speculation last week when he opened the door to an exit from Tottenham, insisting the club must match his ambition.

Manchester United had already been linked with a move for Kane and were given a huge boost by goalscorer’s comments.

But the Express claim United have already accepted defeat in the battle to sign Kane after Spanish giants Real and local rivals City entered the race.

Tottenham have slapped a £200million asking price on Kane and are fearful of losing their talisman this summer.

United are long-time admirers of Kane, but chief executive Ed Woodward feels their chances of signing the England international are remote.

Tottenham appear on track to miss out on Champions League football next season and the appointment of Jose Mourinho earlier this term has failed to spark a revival at the club.

Kane sent a warning to Spurs over his future after he was asked if he would spend the rest of his career at Tottenham.

‘It’s one of those things, I couldn’t say yes, I couldn’t say no,’ Kane said.

‘I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs.

‘But it’s one of those things – I’ve always said if I don’t feel we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, then I’m not someone to just stay there for the sake of it.

‘I’m an ambitious player, I want to improve, I want to get better, I want to become one of the top, top players.

‘It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team.

‘So it’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever – but it’s not a no either.’
