Man Utd step up interest to hijack Napoli move for winger

Manchester United have stepped up their interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Hirving Lozano in a bid to hijack Napoli’s move for the winger.

Mexico international Lozano, known as ‘Chucky’ has scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 34 competitive games for PSV this season.

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti had been tracking the winger and the Serie A club were believed to be offering €40m (around £34m) for the 23-year-old.

But according to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, United have begun negotiations with agent Mino Raiola as they look to gazump the Italians, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to build a squad that can challenge for the Premier League title next season.

 Arsenal are also reportedly ready to make a bid for Lozano, who shot to prominence at the World Cup last summer and has been interesting Barcelona .

Chelsea are also said to be ready to talk – but they don’t want to pay more than £32million – while Tottenham are also interested.

United weigh up move for £10m Championship defender

Meanwhile, United are weighing up a summer move for £10m Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to sign centre-backs if he is kept on as United boss beyond this season, and Godfrey fits the bill.

The versatile 21-year-old can play in defence or in midfield, but has impressed at centre-back during Norwich’s charge to the top of the Championship table.

United scouts have watched the defender numerous times this season, including at Rotherham last weekend when his goal secured three points for the promotion hopefuls.

They have been impressed by his performances, and as a young defender who is comfortable on the ball they view him as an ideal recruit, reports The Sun .
