Man Utd make Bruno Fernandes transfer bid: Sporting have not accepted offer for one reason

Manchester United have already spent over £65million in the summer transfer window as Solskjaer aims to prompt a change in fortunes at Old Trafford.

The relatively inexperienced duo of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have joined the club for £15m and £50m respectively, and United chiefs are showing no signs of slowing down.

Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira confirmed the exciting update for United fans on Sunday evening, but also revealed the reason why the bid hasn’t been accepted.

He said: “Manchester United have offered to Sporting €35M (£31m) for Bruno Fernandes.

“Contacts ongoing, but Sporting want more. For him is ready a contract by €6M (£5.4) a year plus bonuses.”

Schira has claimed that Sporting will have to pay the player a huge fee of €5m (£4.5m).

That clause has led the club to consider their options, and hold out in the hopes that the interest from United sparks an international bidding war.

Schira continued: “Sporting hope for an international auction for Bruno, but right now only United is moving decisively.

“The feeling is that United will eventually pay him more than 35 million, but they will not spend the 60-70 million he hoped to earn Sporting.”

United are cautious of breaking the bank for a second time this summer after Wan-Bissaka became their fifth most-expensive signing of all time.

Th 21-year-old announced his pride at moving to Old Trafford when the deal was confirmed, and defined it as an honour that not many players get to experience.

He said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling and an honour to call myself a Manchester United player.

“And something I know that only a small number of players have the privilege to say.

“I can’t wait to get going and integrated into the squad.

“I will have a short break now after the European Championships but I’m looking forward to starting training with the manager and my new team-mates on the pre-season tour.”

United will travel around the world on a busy preseason schedule, starting with a trip to play Perth Glory in Australia on July 13.
