Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea finished in the top four of the Premier League last season to book their spots in the Champions League, while Thomas Tuchel also led the Blues to European glory
Transfer update: City ‘to end Kane chase’ if they land Grealish
Premier League clubs competing in the Champions League next season have now learned 22 of the 28 opponents they may face in the group stage.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues also triumphed in the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s City in May to be crowned champions of Europe for the second time in their history.
Chelsea and Premier League-winners City have both been drawn in Pot 1 and they cannot be placed in the same group as each other, Liverpool or Chelsea due to UEFA’s same nation rule.
Pot 1 is littered with other giant clubs who won their domestic leagues last season, namely Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Sporting Lisbon and Lille.
Villarreal are also in the mix with the domestic champions after Unai Emery led them to Europa League glory last season.
The Spanish club defeated Manchester United after a dramatic penalty shootout to win their first major European trophy.
Speaking of the Red Devils, they sit in Pot 2 alongside a plethora of the continent’s heavyweights.
Porto, Ajax, RB Leipzig, Atalanta and Zenit Saint Petersburg are in Pot 3, while AC Milan and Wolfsburg are confirmed in Pot 4.
Besiktas, Dynamo Kiev and Club Brugge have also qualified for the Champions League but they are yet to discover whether they will be in Pot 3 or Pot 4.
This leaves six places remaining in the 32-team group stage.
Champions League qualifying is currently at its third round and those who emerge victorious from the two-legged ties will contest a play-offs to earn their spot in the group stage.
Celtic were eliminated at the second qualifying round but Rangers are in action in the third round and face Swedish club Malmo, while PSV Eindhoven, Shakhtar Donetsk and Benfica are also involved.
The Champions League group-stage draw will take place on 26 August.
