Man Utd ‘contact Zlatan Ibrahimovic over stunning return’ and will battle AC Milan for free transfer striker

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly held talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a shock return.

And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be tempted to bring the 38-year-old striker back to Old Trafford to bolster his frontline.

That is according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, who claim the move could happen after the Swede becomes a free agent in January.

Solskjaer is desperate for striking reinforcements following the summer sales of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan.

Ibrahimovic only left United in March 2018 for MLS side LA Galaxy after a successful two-year stint in England.

He bagged 29 goals and helped United to Europa League and Carabao Cup success under Jose Mourinho.

But a serious knee injury curtailed his blistering form – but the veteran has rediscovered it big-time in the States.

He netted 31 times and provided eight assists in 31 games for Galaxy in all competitions this season but was unable to fire them to the conference final.

Now his deal is due to expire on the West Coast with a number of clubs keen on his services.

Serie A giants AC Milan want him back at the San Siro while Bologna have also emerged as a possible destination in recent weeks.

MLS commissioner Don Graber has claimed Ibrahimovic is already on his way to former employers Milan.

But now these fresh reports claim United, who are believed to be bringing Juventus frontman Mario Mandzukic to the club, will battle it out with them for his signature.
