MANCHESTER CITY still believe they can win the race for Harry Maguire ahead of rivals United.

Both clubs have had initial bids of £65million plus add-ons rejected by Leicester.

As SunSport exclusively revealed on Sunday, Maguire has told his Foxes team-mates he wants out of the King Power — and is said to be flattered by interest from Old Trafford.

But with a deal to United in the balance, champions City feel they can hijack the big-money move at the 11th hour.

Maguire, 26, did not train with the Leicester squad yesterday because of illness.

And the England centre-back is not expected to figure in the friendly with Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers will use £45m of any Maguire sale to prise Lewis Dunk, 27, from Brighton.

Meanwhile, champions City finally set off for China yesterday morning at the third attempt.

Administrative errors saw two earlier flights aborted and they will have just 24 hours to prepare for tomorrow’s Premier League Asia Trophy clash with West Ham.

Pep Guardiola’s side allowed Fabian Delph to leave for Everton in a £10million deal on Monday night.

They had already bought Angelino back to the club after the left-back spent a year at PSV Eindhoven.

United, meanwhile, had to endure reports from Italy outlining Juventus’ agreement to sign highly-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax for £67.5m.
