Brilliant from De Bruyne! Gundogan clips a pass over the top for Mahrez, who cuts in from the right and opts to pass instead of shoot. He tees up De Bruyne, who rifles a left-footed shot past Sommer and in off the bar. An emphatic strike from the Belgian. City are now 3-0 up on aggregate and pretty much out of sight.

De Bruyne lifts a cross into the box from the left but it’s just too high for Foden. City continue to dominate. Other than that Embolo shot, Gladabach have been entirely passive.

Close! Gladbach win the ball in City’s half and quickly break. Embolo is fed through the middle, gets the ball out of his feet and fires off a shot from the edge of the box. It takes a deflection and forces Ederson to save at full stretch. The resulting corner comes to nothing.

Chance! Cancelo, drifting into a central area from the left, receives the ball from Walker and then clips a delicate pass over the top for Foden, who’s unmarked in the box. He prods a first-time effort towards the bottom left corner, but Sommer reacts well to parry it wide.

If any kind of comeback is to materialise here Gladbach will first need to get the ball off City. That’s proving difficult for them early on.

Gladbach are pressing very high up the pitch, clearly eager to get on the front foot. City don’t seem to be concerned and are already dominating possession.

They’ve slipped to tenth in the Bundesliga and look a side bereft of confidence, so a comeback tonight seems highly unlikely.

Both Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero are on the bench tonight, which suggests Kevin De Bruyne could start as a false nine.
