Channel Nine’s seventh season of Married At First Sight premieres on Monday.

And on Sunday’s Weekend Today, bride Cathy Evans appeared in her first TV interview ahead of the show’s anticipated return.

The 26-year-old, who will wed a stranger in the first episode, claimed the reaction from friends and family was a ‘mixed bag’.

Speaking to hosts Richard ‘Dickie’ Wilkins and Rebecca Maddern, Cathy said while some of her nearest and dearest were excited, others were nervous of her reality TV  journey ahead.  

‘I had people who were real excited for me. People who were really supportive. But I also had a lot of concerns from people,’ she said.

The logistics investigator said her mother was particular taken aback by her decision to join her controversial social experiment.

‘My mum, she kind of laughed at first, because she thought it was a joke.. And then throughout I think for her, it was like, “Are you sure you want to do this?”‘ 

However, the unlucky-in-love kiwi Youtuber was positive that she had made the right choice by pursuing love on the show. 

‘I think I am always going to be strong in my own decisions… I do respect what my friends and family think, but if I want to do it… it’s something that I follow through.’
