Luke Shaw and Gary Neville in agreement over what Man Utd need this summer

Luke Shaw has agreed with Gary Neville that Manchester United must target quality signings in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished 12 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City this season and are now tasked with keeping pace with Pep Guardiola’s men next campaign.

Despite finishing eight points better off in comparison to the previous year, many believe the Red Devils remain way off the sky-high standards that have been set by the Sky Blues.

But Neville is backing United to win the league title next year if the club are able to make three signings in particular.

Asked where the Red Devils could finish with the right additions made, the Sky Sports pundit tweeted: “Varane, Kane and Sancho = title.”

United enjoyed mixed success in last year’s summer transfer window, getting the best out of Edinson Cavani but struggling with Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles.

Telles was recruited to become the club’s first-choice left-back but has lost out to Shaw throughout this season.

Man City are very much the experts when it comes to having competition for places and it’s a policy Shaw believes United must continue to encourage if the team are to go for title glory.

“With the squad we’ve got, it’s so talented,” the 25-year-old defender told the Manchester Evening News.

“We’ve got a brilliant mix of experienced ones and younger ones but even the younger ones have played so many times now they’ve got that experience.

“The manager was speaking the other day that he would like one or two more signings. I think that we would all welcome that with open arms. Anything that would make our squad better, increase our chances of getting to that next level, will always be good for the team.

“You only have to look at how competition has pushed me. If we can get that around the whole place in different positions, I think we can continue to keep pushing each other and it’s only good for the manager to have that sort of competition and hard choices on who to pick. That’s where we need to improve on,” continued Shaw.

“I think we’re going in the right direction and you can obviously see the improvement. But if I’m speaking honestly, we’ve still got a lot to learn. Especially this season, we look at the points we’ve lost and where we went wrong and we all know how that happened and why that happened.”
