Tottenham winger Lucas Moura has revealed he turned down a move to Manchester United in 2018 because the Red Devils only offered a loan to Old Trafford.

The Brazilian joined Tottenham in the January transfer window after spending five-and-a-half-years at Paris Saint-Germain.

United agreed a deal for the Sao Paulo attacker in 2012 but PSG bettered the Red Devils’ offer by agreeing a £45m deal for the winger.

Sir Alex Ferguson slammed the move at the time, claiming the game had ‘gone mad.

‘When somebody’s paying £45million for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game’s gone mad,’ said the legendary Scot.

However, Moura has revealed that United made a second move for him just 15 months ago before he left the French capital.

Jose Mourinho was keen on signing the Brazilian but United wanted to sign Moura on loan with a view to a permanent move.

And the Brazilian has revealed he rejected the chance to move to Old Trafford because he didn’t want to risk returning to PSG.

‘There was a conversation with United but it was for a loan and I didn’t want a loan,’ Lucas told the Guardian.

‘I thought that if I left PSG, I didn’t want to go back. When I came to Tottenham, and I saw the training ground and met the coach, I said that I wanted to come here.’
