All this time, Callum McLeod had a show-winning Love Island coupling at the back of his mind.

The first evictee of the 2019 series has revealed that he had the hots for single girl Yewande but realised it a little too late.

Callum, who left the show on Friday night, spoke about who he would have liked to couple with on Sunday night’s AfterSun and now the people want a do-over.

He said: ‘I probably would have picked Amy or Anna, but on the last day, as I was getting to know her better, Yewande. When she came out in the little black dress, I was like hmm.’

Callum was dumped by Amber Gill, who chose to save Anton Danyluk from the elimination while Yewanda had Michael’s back, despite saying there was nothing romantic there.

‘[Yewande] was such an interesting person,’ Callum continued. ‘But she was very quiet and we had a really good friendship and then on the night of the recoupling, we were chatting and just having a drink.

‘I was just thinking, she’s so interesting, it could have been like a slow-burner.’

Callum picked Amber from the initial line-up last Monday night, but Yewande failed to step forward when he first came out.

He continued: ‘We didn’t have that initial attraction, because we said that from the start but I think if we had another week or two, I can definitely think something could have happened.’

Fans of the show got to see more Callum than they’d seen in a whole week when he appeared on AfterSun for a debrief with Caroline Flack.

And it seems viewers would have been gunning for a romance between Callum and Yewanda and were left demanding that he go back in and save her from her loveless couple.

Callum, who quit a high-flying job to go into the villa, was equally disappointed to be booted out in the first week, even admitting he had a little cry off-screen after the recoupling.

‘I’m gutted I left early. I’m devastated,’ he said. ‘I’ll let you into a little secret I cried when I left. I was so composed in the villa and then I cried when I left. I cried off-screen.’

Love Island airs weekdays and Sundays on ITV2.
