Louise Redknapp: ‘I was the one at home’ Jamie Redknapp’s ex spills on family life

Louise Redknapp, 44, shares her two children – Charley, 15 and Beau, 10 – with football pundit Jamie Redknapp, 46. Speaking with Christine Lampard, 40, on ITV’s Lorraine today, the former Eternal singer addressed why it it has taken 18 years to return to music and added her children are supportive of her decision. Louise said: “My son Charley was like, ‘Are you really going to do this, mum?’ Charley is 15 now. “They all knew I used to sing, but when they were born I was at home and dad was the one at work.”

She continued: “What’s so nice is when I’m doing a show and they want to come and they’re in the front row.

“Charley brings four or five mates. He’s at that age where he doesn’t go somewhere without some form of a crew.

“Ten-year-old Beau is happy to be sat with me and the band.”

She added: “But that has been the most amazing part of all this. Is having the boys witness what I used to do and what I’m doing now.”

Louise told the stand-in host that her family was her focus during her 18-year-long hiatus.

The mother-of-two said: “It’s good to be back, I never made a conscious decision to stop making music.

“I took a different path. I had a family and had an extended break.”

While the singer continues to promote her new music, Louise has opened up about “moving on” from her former husband Jamie after 19 years of marriage.

The singer admitted it had been a “tough couple of years” but is looking ahead.

Speaking on The Sara Cox Show on ITV this weekend, she explained: “I’m not going to lie, I think everyone knows I’ve had a tough couple of years but like all of us, that’s what happens and we fight forward and move on.”

She also spilled the details on her new music and writing behind the emotive lyrics to the tracks.

Louise divulged: “It felt like such a natural process. I think my heart poured out on a lot of this.

Sara said: “Loads of people say a little bit of heartbreak comes a long way in their music.”

“I think so,” Louise replied. “I think it’s about how honest you want to be about it.”

She continued: “The album is upbeat, expect a mid tempo, and there’s a couple of sadder songs but it’s lyrically empowering and about celebrating who we are.”

Louise has recently released her latest single, Lead Me On which features Clean Bandit.
