Louise Minchin in cryptic post weeks after quitting BBC Breakfast 'Doing some thinking'

BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin, 52, has posted a cryptic picture to Instagram today, after announcing the news of her upcoming departure from the breakfast programme. In June the star, who hosts the show alongside newsreader Dan Walker, told viewers that she will be leaving her role.

In a pensive snap, the broadcaster has now told her 74,000 followers that she is in a thoughtful mood.

Standing in a field of long grass, the BBC host looked out at the pretty landscape as she wore a green-patterned maxi dress.

Clearly enjoying the view, Louise playfully held a blade of grass to her lips as she contemplated what was on her mind.

She captioned the snap: “Doing some blue sky thinking.”

Appearing alongside co-host Dan, 44, Louise revealed why she would be absent from screens.

It was the former who began the explanation, telling viewers: “In the next few days we’ve got a lovely build-up to the Olympics this summer.

“Because this programme is actually not on, is it, for the course of the Olympics?” he asked his co-star.

“I’m not here,” Louise remarked, continuing: “I may not be here but I will be watching back-to-back Olympic sport, it’s my favourite time of the year.”

Addressing her departure from the breakfast show, the broadcaster previously explained to viewers: “It will be, this year, 20 years since I first presented this programme.

“Since then I’ve felt part of a huge, enormous BBC Breakfast family which includes everyone who works here, everyone on the team and every one of you who watches the programme.

“I’ve loved being part of it but – there is a but – I’ve decided that is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3:40am.

“It’s not going to be for a while. But before anything else I wanted to thank everyone that is watching for your loyalty and your support over all those years,” she added.
