Loose Women returned with a special lunchtime show today as ITV celebrated the frontline coronavirus heroes. Christine Lampard was hosting, with Stacey Solomon, Brenda Edwards and Nadia Sawalha all video calling in from their respective homes. But during the conversation, Christine started crying when she thought about the NHS staff who are “risking their lives”.

The NHS special was brought to ITV viewers from the four ladies living rooms, and after finding out how everyone was coping during the nationwide lockdown, conversation turned to their own personal health heroes.

But for Christine, it all got a little too much: “It makes me emotional thinking about it because you think, they’re putting their lives at risk all the time for us.

“It’s just -“ she choked up and then continued: “I get so emotional every time I think about it because I find it so difficult to think they have to worry about their little children and yet all I have to do is stay inside my house.

“It just puts it all into perspective. I wasn’t going to cry today and here I am doing it!”

Unable to cope with the overwhelming emotion, Christine said: “Take over Stacey!”

The screen then split to all four women and Brenda was seen drying her own eyes while Nadia was sending Christine a virtual hug.

Stacey then had to take the shows reins: “I don’t know if I’m equipped to take over!

“But do you know what I love you so much Chris – I love you girls all so much.”

“I don’t know if there’s even one [NHS hero], but I feel like it’s a privilege to be in lockdown and have to stay at home with my family.

A third added: “@loosewomen Wow how fantastic seeing you all, a breath of fresh air! Please can we do this again sometime soon. Love you all xxxxx.”

Also on the show, they were joined by a few familiar famous faces.

Former Loose Women panellists Ayda Field sent her love alongside husband Robbie Williams.

Hey everyone, it’s the Williams’ household here, we just wanted to take a moment to thank the NHS for the incredible work you are doing, your bravery, your strength is guiding us all right now and we are incredibly grateful for the lives you are protecting,” they said.

Robbie added: “I would just like to echo what my wife says and also send you lots of love from our family to you and yours. Big kisses. We love you.”

Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart also made an appearance and honoured those working on the front line.

Penny said: “Hi ladies, I want to give a huge shout out to the NHS and all those carers on the frontline that are giving their lives to help others. You’re all incredible and we owe you so much.”

Rod added: “Bless you all. The NHS was formed in 1948 and that was three years after I was born. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm with repeat episodes on ITV.
