Ryan Hampshire’s double kept Wakefield in Super League and condemned gutsy London to the drop.
The Broncos’ remarkable against-the-odds season had dragged three other clubs into the scrap at the bottom going into the final round of fixtures.
But Danny Ward’s men needed one more win to complete what would have been a remarkable survival campaign and couldn’t find it against well-drilled Trinity.
The result also ensured that Huddersfield and Hull KR preserve their top flight places.
Winger Hampshire – one of only three players to feature in every minute of the Super League season – is now out of contract and currently without a club for next season.

But the versatile back impressed any potential suitors with two smart finishes and Chris Chester’s side never looked likely to lose.
Chester also had signifiant contributions from half-backs Jacob Miller and Danny Brough to finally end fears of relegation after their mid-season slump.
Wakefield were third in early May before winning just twice in 15 league matches to slide towards the frantic battle at the bottom.
But they have a history of success in final day shoot-outs having beaten Castleford in 2006 and won the Million Pound Game against Bradford nine years later.
Trinity can now start planning for a 22nd straight season in the top flight, while the Broncos must regroup back in the Championship.
Ward’s team have enriched the competition with their relentless approach, collecting a host of impressive scalps.

But with this team now being broken up by other clubs – Jay Pitts and Alex Walker joining Wakefield among them – a rebuilding job awaits.
The capital club trailed 8-0 at the break after a Brough penalty and Hampshire’s first.
London missed a golden opportunity to close the gap at the break when Alex Walker’s try scoring pass to Ryan Morgan was correctly ruled forward.
And that was as close as they got as the home side impressively closed out the contest.
Hampshire scored a second from Miller’s superb floated pass before Reece Lyne touched down a smart Brough kick.
The veteran scrum-half then added a drop goal before Walker and Brock Lamb scored late responses for the Broncos.
