Liverpool–themed video games – how many have you tried? – The Empire of The Kop – a blog about Liverpool F.C.

June always provokes that “after the Lord Mayor’s show” feeling, and never more so than this year among the Liverpool faithful. After a season to be remembered for all the right reasons, the rumour mill is going at full steam in anticipation of transfer season – and yet right now, all we can do is sit and think and wait.

It’s a perfect time to take a step back and look at some of the fun aspects of football, and in this technical age, fun usually comes in the shape of a PC, console or smartphone game. So let’s pick the bones out of three Liverpool games that have appeared on very different platforms across the years – have you given any of them a try?

Liverpool

Sir Alan Sugar might be a dedicated Spurs fan, but that didn’t stop him from seeing the potential in a Liverpool FC game for his Amstrad home computer brand back in 1990. It was also ported to the Atari. The player uses either a joystick or keyboard to take control of Liverpool’s 1990 squad and take on other first division teams (this game came out two years before the Premier League was launched), as well as participating in the FA Cup.

The player could pick the formation and choose from real squad members, and there was even the possibility to play a two-player competitive mode. By today’s standards, the game looks rudimentary, but at the time, it was a must-have for all Reds fans.

Liverpool FC slot game

If the Amstrad and Atari represent the earliest days of computer games, then the online casino apps we can play on our laptops, tablets and smartphones show how much gaming has evolved in 30 years. Most of us like to spin the reels occasionally, and there is more variety in terms of which games to play and which site to use than ever. Next time you are assessing online casino options, look for a site that contains Liverpool’s very own slots game, which is called, appropriately enough, Liverpool Football Club.

Released last year by Aspect Gaming, this five reel slot boasts fifty fixed paylines. You can choose which player will represent the Wild, and he could help you towards some lucrative combos. The game is generous when it comes to free spins, and has a very healthy payback percentage of 94.24 percent.

Liverpool FC Euro Penalty Challenge

Here’s a simple flash-based game from the Mousebreaker stable that you can play on your phone or laptop for free. The AI will perform the draw and then tell you how many goals you need in order to advance. So for example, in the first round, you might face Spartak Moscow and need a minimum of three goals in six attempts in order to progress.

Like so many games from this developer, the simple controls and rudimentary graphics belie just how enjoyable and addictive Euro Penalty Challenge can be. Give it a try, and before you know it, the new season will be upon us!
