Liverpool are reportedly at the front of the queue to sign Olympiacos and Senegal defender Pape Abou Cisse.

The Merseyside giants brought in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leizpig in the summer transfer window – in a deal worth around £36million – and Jurgen Klopp is intent on further strengthening his centre-back options as he plans for the future.

The Liverpool head coach already has Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips at his disposal and feels another addition at the back will provide sufficient cover while also raising the level of competition.

According to The Daily Mail, the Reds are closely monitoring Cisse’s progress this season and have already made tentative inquiries ahead of a possible move for the 26-year-old centre-half.

The report claims Liverpool are leading the race for Cisse’s signature, with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton among the other interested parties.

Cisse, Sadio Mane’s team-mate at international level with Senegal, has returned from a successful loan spell with Saint-Etienne to impress alongside Sokratis Papastathopoulos at the heart of Olympiacos’ defence this term.

The pair have conceded just two goals five games into the campaign, with the Greek Superleague champions sitting third in the table behind leaders PAOK and second-placed Volos.

Olympiacos are likely to drive a hard bargain for Cisse given the towering 6 ft 6 in central defender is tied into a deal at the Karaiskakis Stadium until 2024.

Alongside their plans to strengthen at the back, Liverpool have drawn up a list of attacking targets as they look to ease the pressure on fabled front-three Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane.

Arnaut Danjuma – who impressed in Villarreal’s recent Champions League defeat to Manchester United – is firmly on the club’s radar.

The Reds are also keen on Red Bull Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi, who recently made his senior Germany debut at the age of just 19.
