Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson leaves hospital after scan on hamstring injury

Jordan Henderson was pictured leaving a hospital in Liverpool on Friday following a scan on his injured hamstring.

The Liverpool captain was substituted towards the end of the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid midweek after pulling up with the problem.

James Milner replaced Henderson after 80 minutes, leaving Jurgen Klopp sweating over the fitness of his skipper for the second leg on March 11.

Henderson drove to the medical facility in his Mercedes, but parked his car across two disabled bays.

The midfielder returned some time later having undergone a scan, but is unlikely to feature in Liverpool’s Premier League clash with West Ham on Monday.

Klopp said after the Atletico match: “Hendo felt his hamstring, unfortunately.

“We have to wait. He was not too concerned but enough to go off obviously.”

Klopp admitted Henderson was taken off as a precaution, but the severity of the injury will not be determined until Liverpool receive full results of the scan.

The injury comes as a blow to Liverpool, with Henderson having been one of the team’s standout performers so far this season.

Liverpool do have plenty of options to cover however, with Naby Keita also recently returning to full fitness, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has enjoyed a run in the team of late.

And providing Henderson returns in time for Atletico’s trip to Anfield, the injury could arguably not have come at a much better time for the Reds.

Following the home meeting with West Ham, Liverpool face relegation battlers Watford and Bournemouth.

Both of those fixtures come either side of an FA Cup fifth round tie with Chelsea, which Henderson would likely have been rested for anyway.

Nevertheless Liverpool will no doubt miss their captain’s influence if he is ruled out.

Henderson was recently made favourite by bookmakers to be crowned PFA Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Teammate Andy Robertson told Sky Sports: “For me, I think he’s the leading candidate. At times this season when we’ve struggled Hendo has been the one that has driven us forward.

“He’s the one who has made sure we don’t get slack, or he has chipped in with some really important goals or really important assists.

“Maybe his performances at the start of the season went a little bit under the radar, but as the season has progressed he’s not really had a bad game.
