The ladies of Litchfield prison try to carve out the best possible future they can in the trailer for the final season of Orange Is the New Black, which premieres July 26th on Netflix.
Much of the clip focuses on Piper (Taylor Schilling) as she tries to adjust to life outside of prison. The trailer finds her dealing with the mundane day-to-day of office life and questionable comments about her ex-con status (“You’re allowed to hold a weapon, right?” a woman nervously asks her at an archery class), all while her partner Alex (Laura Prepon) remains locked up.
The trailer also teases the goings-on inside the maximum security prison: Taystee (Danielle Brooks) grapples with the life sentence she received after being wrongfully convicted of killing a corrections officer during a prison riot, while Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and her kitchen staff uncover PolyCon Corrections’ unnerving new profit stream. Despite all the heavy material, the clip does offer some moments of humor, like when Suzanne (Uzo Aduba) considers the things she really wants in life: “Ice cream,” she says, before adding, “and justice.”
